Govt ignoring GPs in latest virus fight, says Vic doc

A leading Melbourne GP says the Victorian Government has neglected one of its most valuable resources in tackling COVID-19 — the community’s GPs.
A former AMA President, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal says it’s frustrating that GPs have been largely ignored by the state government throughout the pandemic, including in this latest push to get testing rates up.
Victoria is undertaking a pathology blitz run by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) with over 1000 health workers going door-to-door in hotspots, where 75 new cases were reported overnight on Monday.
Yet Dr Haikerwal says there has been no attempt by the state government to connect with GPs in these areas, or to communicate with them through anything other than the media.
