Govt plan to fund nurse clinic ‘on same street as four practices’ angers GPs

The Queensland Government will open a nurse clinic to provide GP-style care in central Brisbane, which the RACGP says will harm nearby GP practices and waste taxpayers’ money.
The state’s Minister for Health, Shannon Fentiman, announced plans for four nurse-led women’s health clinics back in March, at a cost of $46 million.
But this week, she said the first clinic would open on 30 September at Adelaide Street near Brisbane’s Central station and would treat any patient aged over two for minor ailments, like conjunctivitis, gastroenteritis and burns.
“For victims of domestic, family and sexual violence, they can access healthcare here and we will be providing warm referrals for them, but also treating menopause, perimenopause, endometriosis and pelvic pain,” she said during a press conference.
