State Govt to let virtual ED renew ADHD scripts, blindsiding GPs and psychiatrists
The Victorian Government’s proposal will allow patients to get a one-off renewal for up to six months.
An announcement that Victoria’s virtual ED will offer ADHD script renewals from September has stunned GPs and psychiatrists.
The policy was announced on Wednesday, just a day after the Victorian Government said it would train GPs to diagnose and treat ADHD — something both the RACGP and the psychiatrists’ college had welcomed.
But they say the new policy, which came out of the blue, is unsafe.
Under the plan, patients with an ADHD diagnosis could call the state’s virtual ED — a telehealth service for non-life-threatening emergencies — for a free medical consultation.
