The NSW Government is offering select GP practices $600 per patient if they bulk-bill initial consultations for ADHD diagnosis and at least one follow-up appointment.

RACGP NSW&ACT chair Dr Rebekah Hoffman has welcomed the funding, announced in last month’s state budget, saying it would cover the costs of assessment tools, administration and allied health support in some patient cases.

However, patients requiring more complex assessment and input from a psychologist could become more expensive, she added.

She said ADHD assessments were typically long, complex consultations — the type where Medicare funding is more likely to be inadequate.
