GPs back revival of ‘professional courtesy’ but some have limits
Almost 90% of GPs say doctors should waive or reduce their fees when treating other doctors.
More than 400 GPs responded to AusDoc’s survey on the topic, which was prompted by Sydney ophthalmologist Dr Michael Steiner going public with his concerns that the longstanding professional courtesy was dying out.
The results suggest professional courtesy lives on, mostly.
One retired GP said: “It’s a source of pride to many that we look after other doctors like this.”
