The RACGP’s 14 directors â€” including its president, Dr Karen Price â€” will be paid for the next five months after all, thanks to 58% of grassroots members approving their new $1.2 million remuneration package.

The board was at risk of working for nothing after members refused to approve their 2022/23 pay package at the college’s annual general meeting last year.

The RACGP called an extraordinary general meeting for Tuesday night to redo the vote. The resolution was passed by 3000 of the 5500 GP who took part.

It said the original no vote â€” which passed by a margin of just 30 votes from the 1700 GPs who took part — was the result of a misconception that the board was asking its membership to double their pay.
