Health Dept confirms 3500 GPs weeks away from losing ‘all access’ to Medicare

It's just paperwork but this latest saga has the potential to become a major crisis if doctors fail to act

Below we publish the Federal Health Department’s answers to a series of questions on an issue which has the potential to become a crisis.

Last month, it carried out a review and discovered that 3500 GPs were weeks away from being denied any access to Medicare.

The reason was paperwork: although all of the doctors have college fellowships, they have not formally registered as specialists with AHPRA.

Usually this is not a problem.
