Health Minister orders fresh look at lung cancer screening

New assessment tools could finally make it cost-effective

A national lung cancer screening program appears to be back on the agenda, with the federal Minister for Health announcing an inquiry into its feasibility.

A plan for lung screening based on low-dose CT scans was rejected by the federal Department of Health in 2015 because of low cost-effectiveness ⁠— it would have cost more than twice as much as breast cancer screening, the department said.
