Professor Martin or Dr Chandran — who is the real RACP president?
The board says Professor Martin remains in place. Dr Chandran says she is now RACP chair.
The lines have been drawn for a rebellion in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians following the chaos at yesterday’s EGM.
Dr Sharmila Chandran insists she is now chair of the college after EGM results were announced showing that college members had voted in favour of forcing out Professor Jennifer Martin as their president.
That is at odds with the rest of the board, which issued a statement yesterday claiming the EGM was not run according to the college’s by-laws and that the results of the vote had not been correctly scrutineered.
As a result, it has said it is investigating whether the results are valid.
