Prosecutors have dropped criminal charges of child stealing against a GP accused of helping mothers take and hide their children in violation of family court orders.

Dr William Pridgeon has been suspended from medical practice under emergency powers since his arrest in 2018 by the Australian Federal Police.

He now says he want to return to work, arguing he has never been a threat to patients.

From Grafton, on the NSW north coast, the 67-year-old was originally accused of helping one mother kidnap her twin seven-year-old daughters from their father, who had legal custody, as well as assisting another woman to flee with her grandson.
