Two weeks ago, AusDoc published its interview with the chair of the Medical Board of Australia, Dr Anne Tonkin, about the mass disquiet among doctors with the new mandatory CPD regime. 

Dr Tonkin justified the board’s approach on a series of different levels, stressing its primary purpose was to keep everybody practising safely.

But she laid particular emphasis on what she considered to be the benefits of doctors reviewing their performance and monitoring their outcomes.

After all, this was the key change — at least for GPs — from the previous CPD system with its focus on educational activities.
