To Americans, an Australian pub being threatened with legal action for offering a free pint to people who got their COVID-19 shot must seem quaint.

In the US, rewards for vaccination range from free marijuana (in Washington) to free hunting rifles (in West Virginia).

One incentive that’s proved popular, or at least enthralled the media, is the free ticket for a state-funded lottery.

It started in Ohio and has since been copied by 10 other states.
