Don’t scapegoat doctors when their patients are harmed by alternative therapists

Earlier this year a coronial inquest took place in Byron Bay, NSW.

It concerned a Lismore man who had died in 2021 after a reaction to the saliva of an Amazonian frog which was rubbed into self-inflicted wounds during a ‘kambo’ ceremony at a remote retreat.

The coroner heard that during the “prolonged and agonising death”, it took more than 12 hours of the man vomiting violently before an ambulance was called.

Reportedly, the deceased had refused to go to the hospital or obtain any medical care.
