While it was interesting to read Dr Malcolm Fisher’s article on patients he attended and successfully resuscitated in ICU, none of his cases reflect life at the GP coalface.

Malcolm may have used his experiences to refine triaging for resuscitation purposes, but that all sounds very grandiose and far removed from the way we GPs spend our days.

While I hope I have helped thousands of patients over my lengthy career, the ones I remember most are the ones I did not help, either because their illnesses were inevitable or because I mismanaged their conditions.

As an RMO, I remember having helped resuscitate a shy teenage girl with rheumatic heart disease who presented on several occasions in CCF.
