Why Medicare needs to fund GP care for patients discharged with no information

Dr Arlene Suttar

I agree whole heartedly with the RACGP that GPs should be able to access Medicare items for follow-up consults with patients who have an unplanned admission.

The college announced last month is lobbying the Federal Government for GPs to be able to use the health assessment items for the consults up to seven days after discharge as a way to cut preventable hospitalisations, and in doing so save the health system cash.
