Making heart defects easy to see

Congenital heart defects can be difficult to explain to patients and their parents, as well as being hard for medical professionals to visualise.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has produced an app, Heartpedia, which provides 3D models to be used as educational tools on specific cardiac defects and repairs.

The app opens to a list of 10 congenital heart conditions. Selecting one takes you to a 3D model of the defect with the ability to choose multiple views and to rotate the heart in space.
