Wearable health trackers alone won’t change behaviour

As technology companies ramp up production of devices that measure personal health variables such as physical activity, sleep quality and heart rates, US experts in patient behaviour say the design of accompanying engagement strategies is vital to their usefulness.

In a commentary in JAMA, the doctors and academics say the collection of large amounts of bio-data needs to be matched by strategies which lead to the creation of “enduring new habits”, which is particularly important for those with chronic disease.
