And the ministers also agreed to restrict the use of the title ‘surgeon’ to ensure patients are aware of the qualifications of surgeons, including those calling themselves cosmetic surgeons.
“The use of the title ‘surgeon’, including by way of ‘cosmetic surgeon’, by medical practitioners, non-specialist surgeons or those without other appropriate specific training can cause confusion among members of the public,” they said in a Council of Australian Governments statement.
