Acupuncture alternative to surgery
Eight out of 10 patients with knee osteoarthritis were willing to try acupuncture instead of going straight to total knee replacement surgery, the primary care researchers said.
They evaluated outcomes for two years among 90 patients, with a mean age of 71 years, who had nurse-delivered acupuncture at a general practice clinic in Hertfordshire, UK, and at Royal London Hospital.
The therapy was given weekly for one month then progressively reduced to sessions every six weeks.
