Concussions to be reported to CEOs

Under the new rules for the 2014 season, team doctors will report to the club’s CEO rather than the coach, in a move aimed at reducing the pressure on doctors to allow potentially concussed players to continue playing.

Players demonstrating any symptom of concussion must be presented to the club doctor for a SCAT 3 sideline assessment. Only after such testing can a decision be made as to a player’s ability to return to the game.

Data from the doctors’ assessments along with their subsequent decisions will be supplied to the NRL which will monitor
