But, yet again, on receiving a letter from a hospice service regarding its contribution to the care of a mutual patient, I discovered that the patient — or client as they put it — had passed away eight days earlier without my knowledge.

I had written a full-page letter on the two previous similar occasions, expressing my disappointment that I was being informed of death of the person several days after the event, rather than immediately.
