GP convicted on sexual assault counts
Last week a Victorian Supreme Court jury found Manu Maimbilly Gopal, 39, guilty of two counts of rape after a two-week trial. He had been accused of digitally penetrating two women for his sexual gratification after telling them they needed pelvic examinations.
His first victim, an 18-year-old student, told how she shielded her face with her arm during the examination on 23 February last year in a ‘‘silent scream’’. She had been suffering abdominal pain for several days and her boyfriend suggested she see a doctor.
