More patients waiting longer to see a GP

The report, Healthcare 2011–12: Comparing Performance across Australia, indicated that 24.4% of patients waited more than a day to see their GP – a figure up from the 14.3% in 2009.

The overall number of patients able to see their doctor within four hours for an urgent consultation remained steady at 63.6%.

The spike in those waiting more than a day was attributed to a reduction in the number of patients who previously reported being able to see their doctor within four and 24 hours for urgent matters.
