The so-called ‘mother’s kiss’ method of removing foreign bodies such as beads and pieces of food from a child’s nasal cavity now has the imprimatur of a systematic review.
The technique involves the mother, or a trusted adult, placing their mouth around their child’s open mouth to form a seal and using their finger to occlude the child’s unobstructed nostril.
The adult then blows into the child’s mouth with the aim that the foreign body will fly out of their nose.
