Rural town rift over GP shortfall ‘fix’

Avoca, in the Pyrenees district of Victoria, has a population of just 1000 but residents believed a part-time GP service was not enough.

When the existing service, run by the Nightingale Clinic in nearby Maryborough, did not immediately respond to their calls for an expanded service, a vocal group of activists took the matter into their own hands.

Last week the new Tristar clinic opened its doors, with the help of a $27,000 fundraising effort from locals, and will soon provide two full-time GPs.
