Social system failing those with disabilities: charities
MANY people with disability in the UK are not having basic needs met due to a “social care crisis”, the charity Mencap says.
Based on a survey of 600 people with disability, the report The Other Care Crisis found the government’s social care plans could leave 105,000 people with disability without basic support.
According to the survey, almost 40% of people with disability are not having personal needs met, including being washed or dressed.
In addition, almost half of those surveyed said a lack of social care was preventing them from taking part in community life.
“Chronic under-funding and a clear lack of political will has created a system that fails too many disabled people, too often,” the report said.
