GP banned from antenatal care after patient loses child

AN EXPERIENCED rural GP who prescribed contraindicated drugs for a pregnant woman, contributing to the death of her child, has been banned from providing antenatal consultations and obstetric care.

Solo GP Dr Sunil Kumar Dan, of Moree, NSW, will be allowed to continue practising under supervision but will have to join an approved group practice and complete a prescribing course.

The Professional Standards Committee was told Dr Dan, 73, had been treating the woman for more than 20 years - and had been treating her with antihypertensive drugs for about three years - when she fell pregnant
