Plug pulled on Aboriginal Medical Service

AN ABORIGINAL Medical Service serving thousands of patients in western Sydney is facing liquidation after the federal government cut off its funding, with the potential loss of 96 jobs.

The Aboriginal Medical Service Western Sydney (AMSWS) is expected to clarify today whether it has a chance of continuing to provide primary care and specialist services for its more than 11,000 Indigenous patients.

The federal government informed the board last week that it was pulling the plug on nearly $3 million of annual funding because of accumulated tax debts, which are believed to amount to $4 million.
