Religion matters when it comes to breastfeeding, with new research finding catholic women are less likely to breastfeed than Protestants.

This is the case in France, Ireland, the UK and Canada, and among non-Hispanic whites in the US.

In contrast, the study shows that western countries with a higher proportion of Protestants breastfeeding rates are closer to meeting the World Health Organisation recommendations.
