Australia runs out of EpiPens for children
The company that imports EpiPens for children into Australia has “run out” of stock and is not expected to get more for at least 11 days.
Earlier this week, the TGA announced it would be allowing the sale of a batch of 150mcg EpiPens that had been contaminated with trace amounts of pralidoxime to address a critical shortage.
The contaminant, an antidote for poisoning with pest-control chemicals, posed a far smaller risk to patients than having no access to anaphylaxis treatment, the regulator said.
But it now appears the move may have come too late, because the device’s importer Mylan has no more of the uncontaminated stock.
