Chiropractors should not be using spinal manipulations to treat colic, bedwetting, digestive problems or headaches in children under 12, a review has concluded.

The review, by Safer Care Victoria, was launched earlier this year following a media and political frenzy over a Facebook video of a Melbourne chiropractor dangling a newborn by its ankles before manipulating its spine with an Activator — the ‘stick that goes click’.

It led to an interim ban on chiropractors using spinal manipulation to treat children under two, issued by the Chiropractic Board of Australia.
