Surgeon botches spinal surgery then misleads GP and patient

A WEST AUSTRALIAN neurosurgeon performed an operation on the wrong part of a patient's spine and then quietly rewrote the operation record without informing the patient or the patient's GP.

Dr Quentin John Malone of West Perth has been suspended for 12 months and will pay $107,000 to cover the Medical Board's legal costs after acknowledging that he had misled the patient and the patient’s GP.

According to an agreed statement of facts tendered in the State Administrative Tribunal of Western Australia, the patient was referred to Dr Malone in June 2006
