Blood clot prevention site launched
THREE times as many people die from blood clots in hospitals than die in road crashes, the NHMRC says.
Blood clots lead to more than 30,000 hospitalisations and an estimated 5000 deaths annually in Australia.
In collaboration with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, the NHMRC has launched a new ‘one-stop shop’ online VTE prevention resource centre.
It includes a step-by-step implementation guide for hospital managers, education resources for health professionals and information for patients on what can be done to reduce their risk of VTE.
