Doctor to appeal manslaughter conviction

A WEST AUSTRALIAN doctor who bludgeoned her abusive husband to death in their home will lodge an appeal against her manslaughter conviction.

Dr Chamari Liyanage was yesterday acquitted of murdering her doctor husband Dinendra Athukorala but was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Hall sentenced Liyanage to four years behind bars over the 2014 killing and made her eligible for parole.

With time already served, Liyanage could be released from prison in June.
