General practice in the doldrums, college warns

The RCGP said the proportion of the budget spent on the NHS was 8.39%, compared to 10.33% 10 years ago, and resources had “relentlessly drifted” from community health services to more expensive hospital-based care.

“The governments of the UK must end this crisis by increasing spending on patient care in general practice to 11% of the total NHS budget across the UK by 2017,” RCGP chair Dr Maureen Baker said in a media release.
