Heart failure epidemic calls for a national plan

A big rise in the number of Australians with heart failure shows that a national strategy is needed to diagnose the condition and keep people out of hospitals, researchers at Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne have warned.

Latest figures show there are now half a million Australians with heart failure, up from 350,000 a decade ago, according to Professor Simon Stewart, Head of Preventative Health at Baker IDI.
