Poll: GPs won’t boycott Pfizer

AN MO poll of GPs has confirmed most will ignore recent calls by pharmacists to boycott Pfizer products when alternatives are available, following the pharmaceutical maker’s recent decision to distribute its products direct to pharmacies.

Just 12% of the 90 MO readers who responded to an online poll said they would boycott Pfizer, with 77% indicating they would continue to prescribe Pfizer products when appropriate.

The GP sentiment came despite almost 90% of 217 pharmacists polled by industry-led advocacy group National Pharmaceutical Services Association – whose membership comprises Sigma Pharmaceuticals and Symbion Pharmacy Services – calling for GPs to avoid prescribing Pfizer products when an alternative was available.

The association had previously complained of cases in which the direct distribution model adopted by Pfizer had resulted in failure of supply to some pharmacists.
