Researchers back expanded FOBT screening

An additional 230 bowel cancer deaths will be averted each year with the roll-out of the expanded National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, cancer researchers say.

The introduction of the two-yearly FOBT screening program by 2020 will prevent an extra 9,167 bowel cancer deaths over the next 40 years compared with the original timetable of a 2034 rollout, the Cancer Council Australia has said.
