A simple way to prevent a common contact allergy
Dr Andrew Montanari, our regular tipster from Tamworth, NSW, tells the tale of a patient who developed a rash underneath her new gold watch.
Sure enough the back of the watch was made of nickel: a classic contact allergy.
Rather than suggesting that his patient donate the timepiece to her GP, however, Dr Montanari had another plan.
He told her to paint the nickel plate with clear nail polish (lacquer is an alternative). This created a protective barrier and solved the problem.
