Why Australians need strong general practice

The RACGP does this through a strong focus on education, standards for quality care, professional support, research and advocacy, and by providing support and services to Australia’s dedicated GPs as we carry out our important daily work across this country.

As a practising GP, RACGP vice president, and candidate for president of the RACGP, I am committed to ensuring the support provided by our college continues.

Recognition of the importance of strong general practice to the health and wellbeing of the community has long been recognised in Australia. It has also been highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO), which recently urged the nations of the world to strengthen primary care, ensure every person has access to primary health care, and to train and retain adequate numbers of health workers, including GPs.
