iPhone app will help GPs identify pills on the go

ACCESSING information on drug doses and other prescribing information is set to become a lot easier with the launch of the iPhone app, iMIMS.

Released this month, the MIMS Australia app provides users with full and abbreviated product information, drug alerts, and a new pill identifiers module.

MIMS Australia national business manager Margaret Gehrig said the app was developed for GPs who made home visits, as well as doctors visiting nursing homes and hospital departments – where access to a computer might be limited. 

“It means that doctors on the move can have full drug information at their fingertips,” she said.

Ms Gehrig added that the latest feature – which contains over 2500 pill images and can identify drugs according to class, colour, shape and scoring – would help doctors avoid common problems such as when medications cannot be easily identified.
