Australian GPs now have a practical tool – a set of guidelines for managing and caring for patients with mitochondrial disease.
The consensus-based recommendations build on previous international guidelines, with particular emphasis on clinical management in the Australian setting.
Lead author Professor Carolyn Sue says the patient care standards provide much-needed uniformity in standards of care for these patients, many of whom can be managed in the primary care setting.
