AMA calls on GPs to raise fees
THE AMA is recommending GPs raise the fee for a standard Level B consultation by $2 in a move destined to test the government’s assurances that patients won’t pay more because of the Medicare freeze.
The AMA’s new guidance on fees sets a Level B consult at $78, up from $76. Because the MBS patient rebate remains $37.05, the out-of-pocket cost for a non-bulk billed visit would hit $40.95 under the change.
AMA vice-president Dr Tony Bartone says the rise reflects the higher costs of providing care.
“Wages are going up, rents are going up, the costs of
