AMA calls for national program with focus on doctors’ health

THE AMA has called for the creation of a profession-funded national confidential health program to improve and promote the health and wellbeing of the medical profession.

The proposal was put forward last week in the association’s revised position statement on the health and wellbeing of doctors and medical students.

AMA president Dr Andrew Pesce said the issue was an important one, and urged medical professionals to consider their own health.

“Many doctors can become so focused on their practices and the health of their patients that they neglect their own health and wellbeing,” he said.
