Clinician input lacking in clinical research

Retired medical virologist Professor Ian Gust – whose research played a key role in the development of a hepatitis A vaccine – said much of the research today was coming out of universities and research institutes.

Professor Gust, who is due to speak at the annual GSK Awards for Research Excellence in Melbourne next month, said there had been a decline in the ability of hospital-based clinicians and laboratory workers to conduct medical research unless they were in the privileged position of being university employees.
