Hep C patients aren't getting confirmatory tests

Almost half of the patients who are positive for hepatitis C exposure when screened by their GP do not get follow-up tests to confirm current infection, Australian research shows.

While guidelines recommend confirmatory RNA tests for all patients who have positive hepatitis C antibody results, only 60% of patients are having the PCR tests, researchers from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre in Sydney have found.
