Husband and wife GPs named rural docs of the year
Dr Peter Annetts and Dr Trish Mackay were named Telstra RDAA Rural Doctors of the Year at the Rural Medicine Australia 2013 conference in Cairns last week.
While also being partners at their GP practice, the couple provide procedural services at the local hospital, including obstetrics and emergency care.
Originally from Sydney, the doctors made the decision to relocate to Glen Innes while in their late 20s to job-share a position while they raised their children and said they had been quickly embraced by the community.
“Moving to Glen Innes was a big change from what we were used to,” Dr Mackay said.
“Rural medicine is so exciting – you get to practise all aspects of medicine and really see the difference you can make to people’s lives.”
