Nitschke’s euthanasia party gets tick of approval

Dr Nitschke told MO he was pleased his Voluntary Euthanasia Party had been registered and looked forward to putting the issue on the national agenda ahead of the poll.

“Now we can seriously start planning our campaign in terms of calling for candidates and working out exactly where our resources will be targeted,” he said.

“At this stage we are looking at [running for] two – possibly more – senate seats and, of course, making a final decision depending on the candidates that come forward.

“I am looking forward to giving people a chance to put this issue forward as one that they are concerned about.” 

Dr Nitschke confirmed he would be a candidate and was considering a tilt at a Senate seat in South Australia or the ACT.

He has unsuccessfully run for parliament twice before against Liberal MP and leading euthanasia opponent Kevin Andrews.
