Rural GP plans to push ahead with fees

Dr Chris Gittoes, of the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre (GRHC), said more than six of his patients had expressed interest after he sent them a letter explaining that a critical doctor shortage meant patients found it difficult to get an appointment and proposing that for $140 he would “endeavour to give priority appointments to regular patients”.

A second doctor at the five-GP practice had reportedly also expressed interest in adopting the measure, but late last week GRHC chair Penny Crawford confirmed to MO that the initiative had been abandoned.
