SA Health uncovers inappropriate claims in GP travel rort

A consultation paper released late last month by South Australia Health as part of a review of the state’s Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) noted a range of inappropriate claims being made under the scheme which subsidises air and road travel costs as well as accommodation.

The scheme – budgeted to cost $8 million each year while servicing some 16,000 patients – currently supports people in regional areas by providing a travel subsidy when they need to travel in excess of 100km each way to access specialist services.
